FAQ
Q:
Will the SwingingAider™ help my child hit?
A:
Yes. The SwingingAider™ was designed to help hitters of all ages by employing the proper mechanics, developing muscle memory while learning the rotational hitting method. We have studied hitters of all ages and found instant results in hitters as young as 4 years old. Of course, results can vary. The SwingingAider™ works by keeping the back elbow of the hitter against the body, forcing hitters to rotate their hips and use their core muscles in addition to the maximized power, their swing will level through to the hitting zone -- improving consistency. After training with SwingingAider™, coaches can focus on teaching proper foot width, bend, distribution, and how to minimize head movement. Your child will be the complete package!
Q:
Does the SwingingAider™work for softball players, too?
A:
The SwingingAider™ is designed to work for all hitters, from Little Leaguer and softball players, to more advanced hitters, including adults. We have tested the SwingingAider™ with both Little League baseball teams and softball teams all over California with great results.
Q:
What is rotational hitting and who uses it?
A:
The Rotational Hitting Method is the favored method of almost every Major League Baseball hitter, and every power hitter in history. At the college level, the aluminum bats allow hitters to be successful using linear mechanics. There are three different styles of hitting mechanics. Each has their own advocates, theories, success stories and failures.
Extension Hitting is the most basic method and is. taught at Little League levels, early in a hitter’s development. The knob of the bat to the ball thus relying on only the hands, arms and wrists, to just make contact and put the ball in play instead of driving the ball by generating power with the body. Generally, parents or Little League coaches are teaching this style with very little knowledge of the proper mechanics. Hitters are taught to rotate their upper body on stiff legs, never using any of the core strength of the body. You will hear terms like “throw your hands at the ball”, or “throw the knob of the bat at the ball,” which causes the bat to chop through the hitting zone. It will work early for short-term results, but will be exhausted by about the time the hitter is in 4th grade .
The Linear Hitting Method was popularized by the famous book “The Art of Hitting .300″ by Charley Lau. Lau’s book and philosophies preached creating a “V-Shape” extended arm approach, thus extending the arms completely straight and “out in front of you” at contact. Many coaches attempted to interpret and teach this method. It’s widely taught in Little League, high school and some colleges, but can create a weakness in a hitter’s swing. With this method a hitter can be successful up to about the college level; however, unless the hitter can transition into the rotational mechanic his longevity may be shortened. As you begin to face better pitching, this swing gets dominated by pitchers due to a long and slow swing path. There is, small margin for error on the swing, the wrist position decreases hand strength at ball contact, and like the extension method, it does not utilize the body’s core strength.
Rotational Hitting is the most technical method. Rotational hitting was coined by former big-leaguer and current hitting instructor Mike Epstein, but the theories were popularized in the instructional book by Ted Williams, “The Science of Hitting.”. Ted Williams had one of the best natural swings ever, and was arguably the best left-handed hitter of all time. The philosophy of the Rotational Hitting Method can be broken down into three steps.
1. . Letting the “hips wind up to create torque (known as the load), similar to like a pitcher’s windup. Lower body, hips start turning to open up in a circular direction toward the pitcher. As the torque builds, the upper body will release, the hands do not slide forward but rather adjust up and down depending on the pitch. The shoulder tilt will match the bat tilt, however the hands are always above the ball. The rear elbow locks into the side at the bottom of the ribs and as the upper body turns, the bat will mimic the shoulder rotation. The hips turns until facing the field where the ball is to be hit. The hardest and most important step of rotational mechanics is grasping the concept that the arms do not supply the power; they merely adjust to the pitch as you rotate the upper body. The reason SwingingAider™ is such an effective tool is it will lock the elbow into your side so as you begin to swing you feel how the body has to work together with no other option (hints rotational mechanics). Until you experience what that swing feels like you have no idea of the power your core is capable of producing. This is the technique used by current and former sluggers like Albert Pujols, Barry Bonds, Mike Piazza and Sammy Sosa. While the first two methods may provide success in hitting singles and being an “average-only” hitter, the Rotational Hitting method provides the tools to be a power and average hitter, also known as a complete hitter.
As with any of these philosophies, hitting success requires repetition, concentration and most important--confidence.
The SwingingAider™ reinforces the positives, while terminaiting bad habits.
Here are some ways you can expect the SwingingAider™ to benefit you:
1. Help develop ing,plate/strike zone awareness; it doesn’t allow you to hit pitches out of the strike zone.
2. With your elbow locked, you can’t make contact while lunging at the ball.
3. Your hips will open up as the swing begins.
4. Hitters can’t pull front shoulder or head out of position.
5. As the hands stay inside the ball, bat speed increases. (Think figure skater spinning quickly in a circle).
6. Your hand strength nearly doubles as you keep your arms and hands close to your body. (The farther your hands are from the body, the weaker they become).
7. By using the SwingingAider™ on a regular basis you never stray far from that ideal contact position.
8. You can experiment with parts of your swing (stance, stride, etc…) and isolate the change so you have a true result immediately.
